December 15, 2011 (Washington, DC) The Democratic Members of the Committee on House Administration are disappointed to learn that the Federal Election Commission has again deadlocked on an important issue: Amending contradictory rules that govern the disclosure of independent expenditures. We are less than a year away from away a presidential election and this disturbing pattern of partisan gamesmanship continues at the expense of the American people and the integrity of our elections.

November 14, 2011 (Washington, DC) Elections Subcommittee Ranking Member, Charles Gonzalez (D-TX) submitted testimony to a Congressional forum entitled, “Excluded from Democracy: The Impact of Recent State Voting Law Changes.” The forum is the first proceeding on the subject in the House, although this year has witnessed dozens of states considering or adopting legislation dramatically changing the voting process.

October 19, 2011 (Washington, DC) Committee on House Administration (CHA) Democrats were alarmed to learn that Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (OGR) Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) had disapproved travel for OGR Democratic staff to attend a forum related to the Committee's oversight of federal drug policy. CHA Democratic Members, Representatives Bob Brady (D-PA), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), and Charles Gonzalez (D-TX), sent a letter to Chairman Issa, seeking further information on the review and approval process of Democratic expenses on the OGR Committee.
