November 18, 2013 (Washington, D.C.) Today, the House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 3487, a bill to reauthorize the Federal Election Commission's Administrative Fines Program (AFP) through 2018. This program allows the FEC to streamline "straightforward disclosure violations" and enact a penalty. Since its introduction in 1999, the AFP has improved the enforcement process, decreased late filings, and assessed over $4 Million in fines. The bill was sponsored by all nine members of the House Administration Committee.
November 7, 2013 (Washington, D.C.) Committee on House Administration Democrats applaud today’s proposal by District of Columbia Mayor, Vincent Gray, to prohibit the use of Styrofoam containers in D.C. eateries. The proposal is designed to cut down on waste and keep polystyrene from contaminating area waterways. If passed, D.C. does not have jurisdiction to force the House of Representatives to comply with the ban.

The multi-year project will restore the Dome to its original splendor by repairing sections worn by time and the elements.

The case challenges the constitutionality of aggregate contribution limits in federal elections. The current inflation adjusted limits of $48,600 for an individual candidate committees and $74,600 to PACs and parties have been in place since the enactment of the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act

September 23, 2013 (Washington, D.C.) Today the Senate confirmed two new Commissioners to the Federal Elections Commission (FEC). Ann Miller Ravel of California will serve on the Commission until April 30, 2017 while Lee E. Goodman of Virginia will serve until April 30, 2015. The new Commissioners were appointed by President Obama on June 24, 2013. Today’s confirmations filled the FEC’s two vacant Commissioner positions.

Though the decision upheld Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA), the court invalidated Section 4, a cornerstone of the landmark civil rights legislation.
