Lofgren Statement on Release of U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Final Report

Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) issued the following statement today after the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released the fifth and final volume of its bipartisan Russia investigation. The report found the “Russian Government has sought to understand, and potentially exploit, vulnerabilities in the U.S. campaign finance system,” and recommends “the DOJ, the Intelligence Community, regulators and legislators should work together to identify and address any loopholes that could be abused, by Russia or any other foreign actor, in malign influence operations targeting U.S. elections.” Moreover, the Senate Committee recommends that campaigns should notify the FBI of all foreign offers of assistance.

Lofgren, Clyburn Launch Investigation into States’ Preparations to Hold Free, Fair, and Safe Elections

Today, Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) and Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis Chairman James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) sent letters to election officials in four states—Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Wisconsin—requesting information on the states’ plans to eliminate barriers faced by voters during this year’s primaries and ensure free, fair, and safe federal elections this November. The letters seek details on how the states will follow guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommending “[l]ower risk election polling settings” so that every voter is able to safely cast their ballot.
