WASHINGTON, DC – Committee on House Administration Chairperson Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) introduced legislation today to combat foreign interference in American elections. H.R. 4617, the Stopping Harmful Interference in Elections for a Lasting Democracy (SHIELD) Act will close loopholes that allow foreign spending in our elections, boost disclosure and transparency requirements, and create a duty to report illicit offers of campaign assistance from foreign nations or governments.

The Committee on House Administration's Subcommittee on Elections has jurisdiction over federal elections, giving it the authority to consider proposals to amend federal election law and monitor congressional elections across the United States.
Special Counsel Mueller has repeatedly warned that Russia interfered in our elections in a "sweeping and systematic fashion" and continues to do so.
