Washington, DC (April 26, 2011): House Administration Committee Ranking Member Robert A. Brady, joined with fellow Democratic Committee Members Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Charles A. Gonzalez (D-TX), to request additional information from House Speaker John Boehner on recent contract negotiations with law firms related to the Defense of Marriage Act. Most recently, the law firm of King & Spalding withdrew from a contract with the House that has been broadly criticized for "inadequate vetting."
Washington, DC (April 21, 2011): House Administration Committee Ranking Member Robert A. Brady praised efforts by Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) to challenge FEC regulations that undermine campaign disclosure requirements. Van Hollen’s lawsuit challenges the FEC’s narrowing of campaign finance disclosure requirements in a manner that is inconsistent with the original McCain-Feingold disclosure provision.
Washington, DC (April 14, 2011): The Committee on House Administration today convened a hearing to discuss proposed legislation to terminate the Election Assistance Commission (EAC), the bipartisan agency created by the Help America Vote Act and charged with providing resources and support to state and local election officials.
Washington, DC (April 13, 2011): On Thursday, April 14th, at 10:30am, the Elections Subcommittee of the Committee on House Administration will hold a hearing on H.R. 672, proposed legislation to abolish the Election Assistance Commission (EAC). Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, one of the main architects of the Help America Vote Act which created the EAC, is scheduled to testify about the ongoing importance of the EAC.
Washington, DC(April 1, 2011): During a hearing convened by the Committee on House Administration yesterday, a report issued by the Office of Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler was the subject of tremendous scrutiny. The report, prepared with official state resources, makes unfounded allegations of non-citizens registering to vote and participating in the 2010 Election in Colorado.
