BRADY PRAISES VAN HOLLEN FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION LAWSUIT

April 21, 2011

Washington, DC (April 21, 2011): House Administration Committee Ranking Member Robert A. Brady praised efforts by Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) to challenge FEC regulations that undermine campaign disclosure requirements. Van Hollen’s lawsuit challenges the FEC’s narrowing of campaign finance disclosure requirements in a manner that is inconsistent with the original McCain-Feingold disclosure provision.

“Ever since the disastrous Citizens United Supreme Court decision which rolled back campaign finance law nearly 100 years, efforts to ensure that the public can follow the money trail in our elections have been under siege,” said Brady. “These attacks potentially undermine the integrity and fairness of our election system. Spending by large corporations and special interests, some of whom are funded, directed or controlled by foreign interests, cannot be allowed to determine the outcome of American elections. I applaud Congressman Van Hollen’s efforts and stand ready to assist in ensuring that the American people remain the loudest voice in our elections,” Brady added.
