Location:
1310 Longworth House Office Building

On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 10:15 a.m. ET, the Committee on House Administration will hold a hearing titled, “Congress in a Post-Chevron World.” The hearing will take place in room 1310 of the Longworth House Office Building.

Hearing Summary

The landmark 1984 decision in Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council gave rise to the Chevron doctrine setting the precedent to uphold an agency’s reasonable interpretation of an ambiguous statute. With the Chevron doctrine now eliminated, every regulation implementing any statute will be the subject of increased litigation, and Congress will have to write incredibly technical and precise legislation. In order to have the resources to write such detailed, precise, and expertly researched legislation, Congress must invest in itself to increase capacity and ensure legislative staff have ample resources available.
