Ranking Member Morelle’s Statement on Passage of Republicans’ Election Takeover Bill
WASHINGTON — Today, Rep. Joe Morelle (NY-25), the top Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, issued the following statement after Republicans’ election takeover bill passed the House, forcing states to turn over voters’ personal private data to the Department of Homeland Security and creating numerous unnecessary barriers to the ballot box for millions of Americans:
“President Trump wants to take over American elections this November—to maintain his tenuous grip on power. So, Republicans have a singular purpose in supporting the SAVE America Act: helping the President get what he wants. Republicans are falling over each other to help Donald Trump nationalize the 2026 midterms. Donald Trump should not control our elections. We, the American people, control our elections.”
Earlier today, Ranking Member Morelle offered a legislative fix on the House floor to protect private voter data from Secretary Kristi Noem and the DHS. House Republicans rejected the legislative fix.
