Ranking Member Morelle on the Transfer of January 6th Security Footage to Tucker Carlson

Washington, D.C. – Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (D-NY) issued the following statement in response to the Republicans transfer of sensitive security footage during the January 6th insurrection to Tucker Carlson:

“It is abhorrent and unconscionable that one of Speaker McCarthy’s first acts is to endanger his colleagues, staff and our country by allowing a transfer of sensitive security footage to a conspiracy theorist.
 
“This act not only endangers numerous individuals but undermines the United States Capitol Police as their leadership has repeatedly stressed the danger of publicly releasing this footage. The Speaker’s irresponsible decision could have implications for how we would protect the Capitol from terrorists who seek to do us harm.
 
“I will work with my colleagues and Leader Jeffries to develop and implement recommendations so this type of dangerous breach does not happen again.”
