WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Joe Morelle (NY-25), the top Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, issued the following statement honoring the dedication and service of Officer Jacob Chestnut and Detective John Gibson. Chestnut and Gibson were two members of the U.S. Capitol Police force who were senselessly murdered while protecting our Capitol 26 years ago:

“United States Capitol Police Officer Jacob Chestnut and Detective John Gibson served our nation and protected our Capitol with honor and bravery. We remember and pay tribute to these men who gave the last full measure of devotion every day — and especially today.

“To our United States Capitol Police officers—on behalf of the Congressional community—I thank you for your service in protecting our nation’s Capitol, Members of Congress, thousands of visitors, and staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We deeply appreciate the sacrifices you and your loved ones make on behalf of our democracy.”
