Ranking Member Morelle on FCC Decision to Outlaw AI-Robocalls
February 8, 2024
Washington, D.C. – Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.) issued the following statement after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) outlawed robocalls that contain voices generated by artificial intelligence (AI):
“The decision from the FCC today comes just weeks after New Hampshire voters were targeted through AI-generated robocalls to discourage them from exercising their right to vote – a cornerstone of our democracy. I am pleased to see action taken as the rise of AI only increases, and we move further into this election year. I will continue to work to protect our democracy and every eligible American’s access to the ballot.”
