Ranking Member Morelle Commends Lonnie G. Bunch for Many Faithful Years of Service to the Smithsonian Institution

ROCHESTER, NY – Today, Rep. Joe Morelle (NY-25), the top Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, released the following statement on Lonnie G. Bunch III stepping down as Secretary of the Smithsonian:

“I thank Secretary Lonnie Bunch for his lifetime of service to our country and for his historic tenure at the Smithsonian Institution, most notably serving as Secretary for the last seven years. Secretary Bunch has patriotically defended the honest telling of American history against an Administration determined to rewrite it. As the Institution’s first Black secretary and the founding director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, he built a world-class museum from scratch and gave millions of Americans a more fulsome account of their history. I am grateful for his friendship, and the Smithsonian and our country are stronger thanks to his service,” said Ranking Member Joe Morelle.
