Ranking Member Morelle and Committee on House Administration Democrats Introduce the PUMP Technical Correction Act

May 22, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (D-NY) and House Administration Democrats introduced the PUMP Technical Correction Act. This legislation amends the Congressional Accountability Act of 1995 to expand access to breastfeeding accommodations in the workplace:

“As a parent and a grandparent I know firsthand how difficult it is to manage professional responsibilities and parental responsibilities. No one in the workforce should feel excluded for deciding to have children and taking on one of the toughest jobs in the world. Adding additional space and accommodations for our nation’s parents is a small but meaningful way to make good on our commitment to supporting the needs of families.”

The PUMP Technical Correction Act was passed as part of the 2022 Omnibus spending bill and expands existing protections in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for nursing mothers. This bill would require employers to provide all nursing mothers reasonable break time to express breast milk and a private location, besides a bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion. Currently, there are no PUMP Act Protections in the legislative branch.
