Morelle Statement on SCOTUS Decision in Louisiana v. Callais and Robinson v. Callais

WASHINGTON – Rep. Joe Morelle (NY-25), the top Democrat on the Committee on House Administration, issued this statement following the Supreme Court's decision to erase decades of voting rights progress and protections:

"Shame on President Trump and his allies on the Supreme Court. This is not just a court case. This is about our right to vote. For nearly 60 years, the Voting Rights Act has helped protect every American’s voice at the ballot box. People marched, fought, and died for that right. I will not sit by and let this corrupt Supreme Court take away these hard-won freedoms. Nor will I let the Supreme Court strip away the people’s power.

"To every American who is worried right now: we see you, we hear you, and we are ready to fight.

"And we will not stop until the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act is the law of the land."
