Morelle Statement on Completion of Investigation Clearing Georgia Poll Workers
Washington, D.C. – Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.) issued the following statement on the completion of the investigation clearing Georgia poll workers who were targeted by former President Donald Trump and harassed by MAGA election deniers for years.
“I hope this investigation provides some closure and comfort to Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss. They dedicated themselves to ensuring we have free and fair elections and should never have been put through this harassment and intimidation, whether it was from MAGA election deniers around the country or the former President of the United States and his top advisors.
“It’s a reminder that our democracy is in a continuous battle against extremism. Protecting our local election officials, poll workers, and volunteers from partisan interference and intimidation from election deniers is at the forefront of that battle.
“I’m disappointed that Republicans in Congress have both defended those who harass and intimidate election workers and are proposing legislation that leaves local election officials without the resources to provide for their safety. Rather, we should pass the Freedom to Vote Act, which protects election workers and establishes national standards that protect every eligible American’s access to the ballot, regardless of where they live.”
