Brady Applauds Van Hollen for Reintroducing DISCLOSE Act
Committee on House Administration Ranking Member Robert A. Brady issued a statement today commending Rep. Chris Van Hollen for reintroducing the DISCLOSE Act.
"The 2012 election showed us the negative impact of unlimited secret money financing our elections. I want to applaud my friend and colleague, Rep. Chris Van Hollen, for reintroducing this important legislation on the very first day of this new Congress," said Brady. "Despite Democratic efforts, the previous Congress, under a Republican majority, refused to hold a single hearing on this legislation. Our election system is a cornerstone of our democratic process. We must make every effort to ensure its integrity. The reintroduction of the DISCLOSE Act is an important step in the right direction and I encourage my colleagues to move forward in passing this legislation."
Under the Democratic majority in 2010, the first DISCLOSE Act was passed by the House of Representatives, but died in the Senate, falling one vote short of ending a filibuster. The bill seeks to restore the American people's trust in our elections process in the aftermath of the Supreme Court'sCitizens Uniteddecision.
