Scheduled

Location:
1310 Longworth House Office Building

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. ET, the Committee on House Administration will
hold a hearing titled "American Confidence in Elections: Prohibiting Foreign Interference." The hearing
will take place in room 1310 of the Longworth House Office Building.

Hearing Summary

Ranking Member Joe Morelle will focus on eliminating the harmful influence foreign and dark money have on American elections - including ballot initiatives. There are real-world consequences to the Republican-created foreign money loophole, and Ranking Member Morelle will dive into the consequences facing everyday Americans.

In 2018, a foreign corporation spent hundreds of thousands of dollars opposing a Montana ballot initiative  to protect the health of the state's water. Using the Republican-created foreign money loophole, foreign corporations could poison American groundwater, which would leave American taxpayers to foot the bill to clean up the mess. House Democrats Freedom to Vote Act would close the Republican-createdforeign money loophole, ensuring that foreign entities are no longer able to meddle in American elections.
